I purchased a WHOLE living room set from Art Van Half of it was junk and over priced.
The couch that i purchased was over priced And Junk Made by Simmons Upholstery.
The first day i got it squeaked like crazy . well about 6 months go by and the Springs keep popping off of it. I looked under it scratched up my new hardwood floors. So i put the spring back in And it was okay. Well i took off the materiel underneath to fix it and the particle board looks old and nasty like they found it on the street it looked like graffiti painted on it . So i complain about it and nothing they can do. Well they can come out to fix it ,but they will charge me for it. I am not paying Shit i tell them instead I told them i will put out a Blog And see how many people can tell there stories about junk they bought from Art Van.
I also found 2 pieces of furniture i bought at BIG LOTS for half the price. same company and all.
My wife bought a head board, end tables, and a dresser in Port Huron. They were supposed to ship the head board and the end tables to the Livonia store near my house. I borrowed some time from a friend that had a truck to help pick it up. When I got there, I was told that they shipped my stuff to the Southfield store which is about a half hour away. So we drove there and guess what, the only thing there was the end tables! I could easily fit these in my car, so I didn't even need my buddies help. I called the moron at the Port Huron store and told him I wanted the headboard delivered to my house. He said sure, but I would have to pay for delivery. Well, after putting the fear of god in him, he waived the delivery fee. So the headboard was delivered to my house and I thought all was good, but I wasn't there when my wife picked it out. Guess what, my wife gets home, takes one look at it, and tells me that they delivered the wrong one. SOB! So I called the Port Huron moron AGAIN and told him what his retarded company did this time and requested some sort of compensation considering the time I had to miss at work for these idiots to bring me what I paid for. The best he could do was a $50 gift certificate. Like you can get anything for under $100 bucks there. So before they came to pick up the wrong headboard and delivery the right one, a screw accidentally scratched up the wrong headboard to the point that they would never get full price for it, oops! Finally I got everything that I paid for, but remember I said we got a dresser too? Well all the drawers are now broke because they were made out of plastic! Seriously? I paid like $1000 for plastic draws? I would be better of shopping at Rubbermaid! Art Van is a ripe off and their furniture is shit! Stay away, unless you have too much money and nothing to do with it. If that's the case, please send some my way!

We were interested in a living room set and I told him I just needed to go home and take a few measurements to make sure it would fit. He would not let us go without a Deposit and told be the price would not be good that he quoted if I left the store. I told him fine I would make a deal with someone else when I returned. He then came close to getting his ass kicked as he told me that I was basically an idiot for not letting him write it up. That is when all hell nearly broke out as I told him he could shove the set up his A$$ for all I care and if I head him said another word to me that he better call 911 that's when my wife stepped in and said lets go before you do something you may regret. So we left and I will never ever ever step into another Art Scam store again. F... Art Scam !

ReplyDeleteI purchased a leather sofa and club chair w/ ottoman from ArtScam. Less than 4 months into normal use, the webbing straps broke, the cushions depleted, and I had a massive dent. And no I'm not overweight; 140 lbs.
ArtScam would not do anything to fix the problem. Forkin' bastards!
I did find out, displayed in the showroom as a 'matching' set by Natuzzi, the sofa and the club chair were not manufactured by the same company. The club chair was manufactured by Natuzzi but the sofa was manufactured by a different manufacturer using Natuzzi materials.
The Fix:
I took it apart and removed the entire seat section, made of particle board and 1x1's, and dropped it off at Foam N' More & Upholstery. Not only did they fix the webbing straps, they reinforced and added 3 times the amount of webbing than the manufacturer, reinforced it with additional lumber, and added additional foam to the cushions. They get alot of fixers from ArtScam.... Hmmmmm, no surprise there.
Foam N' More's price was definitely fair; $186.00. The sofa is now in the state it should have been upon purchase. I have included Foam N' More's info for any fellow ArtScam bloggers if you need it.

I begged and begged my husband to get new furniture. Finally we went to Art Van and I picked out a sectional with a mix between a weaved and corduroy material. The Salesman didn't tell us that the Company, Rowe furniture, was going out of business and that our new couch was discontinued. Since he neglected to tell us this, we spent $2200 on this couch. In the meantime, we have to wait 3 months for Art Van to get all of the pieces organized and to our home. When we finally got the merchandise, we loved how it looked. Immediately though, we noticed that if you sat on the attached chaise, the arm-rest would wiggle and squeak. We called Art Van, who directed us to our salesman...he knows NOTHING! After several calls we received 3 new chaises. Also, inbetween all of our chaises, the material on the couch snagged and tore. We continued to complain. Finally Art Van told us they would pick up our couch and we could come in and get a new piece. What they didn't tell us was that if we didn't spend the same amount of money then it didn't matter. We went in and found a new couch. We we went to customer service they wanted to charge me the same $2200 from the first couch even though this one was only $1200. They wanted me to eat a grand! I don't think so! They go out of their way to stalk you when you shop and then they try to rip you off...Good thing I'm smart!
ReplyDeleteI just bought a couch and love seat set. The front part of the couch is now bowing in the middle and the springs are shot. I bought the insurance so I will be calling next week to see how they treat me with fixing it. I will update after I call them.

Well, after just one yr it started to wear so now we have a three yr worn $2700.00 chair, ottoman, and couch. I called and called. Wrote letters, tried to call Natuzzi. They finally came out and I guess painted the seats where it is worn looking however it didn't work....I will never purchase from them again...that is absolutely ridiculous at that cost my furniture should still look new! Never again. I purchased from the Port Huron Art Van.
ReplyDeleteI purchased a bedroom set from art van. It was expensive at $3500.00. When you read this you might think that I am hard on my furniture. I assure I am not. Within a year 1.The wood cracked around the part of the bed frame that holds the side-boards up. I had to put a paint can under the side board to hold it up. 2. Several of the drawers starting slipping out because the wood they were sliding on was splitting. 3. The finials on the bed post started to wobble and could not be put back properly. 4. The hardware on the dressers handles and knobs come loose from average use and have to be tightened constantly. I couldnt call them because this was a floor model. However I do not beleive that the issues related to the furniture basically falling apart at the seams was due to it being a floor model. When you buy stuff at art van you are buying cheaply made inferior products and you are not saving money. Spend a few dollars more and buy something made to last.
ReplyDeleteI bought a PUB table at ART VAN In Port Huron And it was in the clearance section. It was about $750 . I had to put it together that was no problem , the problem i had Was the legs were warped and the middle section that held the legs together had notches that were a INCH to small. I called them up and since it was clearance its a pretty much as is thing.After telling them I take them to small claims court they finally replaced the legs ,but I had to cut the notches out myself being that was a mistake from the manufacturer. I am a carpenter so it was no problem ,but what if a person that didn't have the right tools bought this. They would be Shit out of luck. ART VAN DOES SUCk.

OMG!! I can't believe there is an Art Van Furniture SUCKS!!! website. Well I'm glad there is because I just want to say that they are the absolute worst company to deal with. First of all you are hounded at the door by at least 3 to 4 sale reps. Then if you say you are just looking, They will follow you all around the store and they will keep asking you if you need help every turn you make. Reason Being is that they all work on 100% commission. Then whatever you wind up choosing will be a piece of junk and fall apart within the first 5 years of having it. I spent about $3000 at Art Van and everything I bought has fallen apart some way or another. All of there woods may look real but everything is made of partical board with veneer on top. I will never go there again they are a rip off.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sweet site its about time someone made one. I purchased a Leather sofa and love seat at the chesterfield mi. art van . I had it for 2 months and the leather die or paint was peeling off. The set all together was about $3500. It was a Pain to deal with because i had to take a bunch of days off of work for them to "JUST LOOK AT It" anyways they fixed it but it didn't last much longer . I will never buy from them again.

I seen this site a couple of days ago and did check out BIG LOTS They had STUFF Thats alot cheaper and same quality. COOL SITE Whoever Made it i will send to all my friends and family.
My boyfriend and I bought a complete bedroom set from them. A year later we were in the process of moving and dicovered the chest that we payed $1200 for had come from the manufacture with a broken leg that they fixed before we have ever got it. I didn't pay to have refurbished furniture. When we contacted them they told us that they repair furniture all the time and sell it at regular price. So check everything very carefully but truthfullu gardner white is no better
ReplyDeleteAs far as quality, Gardner White is worse! A year after purchasing a recliner, I had to remove the upholstery so I could screw the entire side of the chair back to the frame. The padding in the armrests has collapsed and the wood, or particle board, is the only thing you feel when resting your arms.

I bought a bunch of stuff from the chesterfield location and When they delivered it they scratched my walls and put a huge dent it the corner of my dresser that i had bought from them. When they got it all set up it looked bad So i had them take it back down stairs and out of my house They did this process 2 times before they got it right . I had to patch a big hole in the wall also and repaint.

Yet your issues are entirely on you if the correct furniture was delivered but just didn't 'look right' in the room. Figure that out before the sale, lady.

ReplyDeleteI hate the sales people there Bugging you all the time. We got a recliner there ,it was about 400 bucks and it was broke within a year, very cheap quality. I weigh 110 lbs not heavy at all. Since its been broke I let my pets sleep on it in the basement now. I have tried talking to them about it ,but they want to charge me to fix it. I'll stick to buying Thomasville.
Thomasville is high quality product and you will probably not be disappointed. They used to have a thomasville section in art van, but now, most of their product line is geared towards the budget conscious shoppers. Low price low quality.

Its pretty sad One of the reasons someone from ART VAN told me is. They BUY OUT Left over furniture from companies going out of business for real cheap and Sell them at a higher price but tell YOU ON SALE ,Thats where they make there profit. And Thats why you see them at BIG LOTS. Yes i agree they are junk you are better off buying from the Amish. Couple of places in Ohio that sell good Amish furniture.

Hello, I had a bad experience From This Place. My Husband and I Bought A Couch From here and it smelled kind of Funny Almost like urine.So My husband tilted the couch back and seen a Water Mark underneath and these little brown balls that looked like marbles. He took it apart and it was poop from some kinda of furry creature because there was HAirs in it also, Well I called ART The FART and They just came out and cleaned it,but still it was NASTY and just the thought makes me want to puke. We kept it for a few Months And Gave it to My Step sister that i Hate so No harm done. I will never by here again.

The material was a like a Quarter Roy Material and after 3 months the seems came apart. The Furniture that i had purchased was very expensive in fact my bill when i had left was $15,000 And i would say 3 out of the 4 pieces i had Bought were junk. My Dinning room table set was warped or something and that was a high priced item. the leaf would not fit right. They came out more than once to fix it. Now $15,000 is a lot of money to spend on CRAP. Now if i spent this 10 years ago at the same place i think the quality would have been better ,but now everything is built in a hurry to sell more pieces. So if the item is not cheap you still get CRAP..
I bought a cheaper item when i 1st got married in the 70's and my Son still has it to this day. quality was better back then and not now.

I hate Art Van Furniture. I bought a expensive dinning table and the material on the seat cushions turned a yellowish color after i had them come out and clean it. It was fine until then. I think it was the chemicals they used. I had to get them reupholstered. cost me $900.

I had the same thing happen to me with there cleaning company ,but with a couch. It was like they cleaned it with dirt or something. it stained it . They said they were not responsible for it. Well now i have a ugly looking couch that looks dirty.

That should have been the first clue they were weaseling out of it. Not that it had any stains but so what if it did they wouldn't make it's construction any less defective. The Technician aka liar said that the matress is fine. It's normal for it to feel like a bed of nails. ART VAN sells junk and can't stand behind it. You can't really warranty junk when you only sell junk or you would be out of business.
Its Great that he donated 1 million dollars,but you know what? thats a huge right off on taxes also. he could use it.God Bless Him But his furniture SUCKS!

So my daughter and son-in-law needed a new bed. The same day they bought a mattress, box spring, and bed frame (on sale because it had been returned) from AVA2, my SIL went fishing. The next morning, my SIL awakened covered in bug bites. After several days of suffering from acute reactions to the bites, he went to the doctor who prescribed oral steroids for apparent chiggers (from the fish pond). No relief! It was after continued agony that the first bug was discovered on the mattress. The exterminator confirmed that it was a BED BUG! ARGHHH! Well, $2500 in medical, laundry and cleaning, and exterminator expenses later, we too will never shop at AV again.
ReplyDeleteedwin s. says, I bought a bed, IRT from King Koil, from the Westland store, and when it was delivered, I immediately noticed that it was made from a different material than the one I saw in the store. The floor sample was made from a soft latex foam. I loved that bed. The one delivered was made from memory foam, very firm. There is a big difference between the two. My back has been hurting since the day I got it.
ReplyDeleteI called and customer service kept telling me it's a comfort issue. Just pay the 200.00 and get another one. I called King Koil and complained. They said to send pictures and check the tag. Their reps had never heard of such a thing. Art Van customer service thought I was nuts, I read the notes, they really do. I guess I was somewhat rash, due to the fact I have not slept in weeks and can barely walk. They just did not beleive this problem could even exist.
I went in and talked to the store manager. I recommend you do this first before calling customer service. Face to face contact seems to elicit a better response. The Westland store took good care of me and at this point I don't have any major complaints.
Looking back, I suggest that you read as many blogs as you can before you purchase anything, no matter where you buy it. Especially true of any manufacturers warranty and store return policy. Mostly, because no matter how good something seems, you won't notice until it fails your expectations.
In Art Van's defense, they don't consider this a defect because the manufacturer does not consider this a defect. I do think Art Van knows about this being a problem, because I am not the only one who has complained. (see King Koil blogs) There was a blog about the Lansing store with an identical problem.
Art Van has only two reasons to return something, defect or comfort issue. The problem here is just about everything can be seen as a comfort issue and you have to pony up the 200.00 to get it right, not so fair when you consider I paid 2500.00 for a mattress set I did not order.
Note to Art Van, STOP FIGHTING WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS !!! We're not out to get you. We just want something in our house we can be proud of.
Note to Art Van customer service, GET OFF THE POWER TRIP !!! Not every nut job customer needs to be put down. We just don't want to get hosed for more money when it's not our fault.
I am laughing so hard about this page, I came across it because I was looking on line to find the email address of there top executives because I am getting know place with there “Manager of the store on 14mile pretty sure that is the Corporate office”. My story is no different then everyone else’s above. I spent over $8,000 there in 1 day and every since it’s been my biggest nightmare. First delivery they hacked up my kitchen table chair, then it took 2 weeks to get the replacement, replacement comes, it’s also hacked up now another week goes by they delver the 3rd chair and finally that is right took a month to have a full table set) . Looked at my bill that month and see that they charged me for all 3 times that they came out. As if it was my fault that they kept delivering hacked up chairs. Then the couch was missing a cushion that took another month to get. Now my kitchen table that is solid wood is bubbled up in the crease spot. Which they say must have gotten water in the crack and that’s what happens. They say they will not replace it because that’s a homeowner problem and not a manufacturing problem. OK, first off since when does wood bubble if it gets water on it? I would say that’s a manufacturing problem. After going back and fourth with this manager I finally said~ ‘so your telling me there is nothing I can do about this and even though I have been a customer that forked over a ton of cash to your company in less then 4 months I have a hacked up table are your going to do nothing”? She said I can give it to you for what we paid for it, ready ~ $250.00 so I paid a $1,000 for this table and she tells me if I want a new one I can pay them another $250.00 for a new one. I told that doesn’t seem right and almost laughable that you are even suggesting I pay you more money. I then said I was going to write the BBB and her comment back was “go ahead”. What kind of Manager says that? After looking on line I see why she said that. She was probrablly thinking go ahead your not the first there is even 2 books out there written about what a crook Art Van himself is.

The Girl said if you wanted a better couch you should of went somewhere else! luckily my house caught fire and no longer have it Insurance bought me a better quality at a better price piece at VALUE CITY i was really surprised, in fact i saw a few items that were the same maker and style just different color.

You can almost picture this person coming at you with the dixie cup of water and paper towel to try to dupe you into buying Art Van's overpriced "fabric protection". Here's some things the Art Van shill can't rebut:
ReplyDeleteArt Van spends a massive amount of money on expensive TV advertising, so they can't possibly have good prices. That advertising adds a tremendous amount of bottom line cost to everything they sell. I was recently shopping for a home theater recliner and got the same item that Art Van sells for $1000 (their 'fake' sale price) for $729 at a local store that doesn't TV advertise, and that included FREE delivery and set up. (Art Van charges $80 for delivery)
Art Van's sales are not legitimate and are illegal under Michigan's consumer protection laws because they aren't legitimate sales. Their 'regular' prices are contrived and the sale prices are the real (and regular price) of the furniture. Under Michigan law, it is illegal you create mark someething as being on sale when it is not. As with most business abuses in the state, our republican AG turns a blind eye to keep the campaign contributions flowing.
Quit wasting your time with the heavy advertisers like Art Van, Value City and Gardner White and take the time to check out local furniture retailers. You'll find much better quality at the same price point because these small businesses aren't spending $1million a month on advertising. You'll also be helping a small business or family business keep going in this bad economy.
Well, I just found out that I got duped by Art Van. They flat out lied to my face when I purchased my couch and told me that their extended warranty would cover my specific concerns. Guess what? It doesn't. They lied to sell me the couch and the warranty.

You never get a damaged item replaced at Art Van Furniture, they always "repair" it, using Art Van owned repair svs.. I know, I used to work there as a sales person. Sales people abuse is a totally unbelieveable subject, but this svs. dept. is just another way to fill Art Van Elslanders pockets. Art owns planes, a castle like home as well as an identical castle type vacation home etc. etc.. The sales people are treated like dirt, encourage fights among the sales people, are not allowed to leave the premises, work for free when no customers come in, lower commission for sales, etc. etc. ART VAN HAS CHEAP JUNK, POOR QUALITY FURNITURE. AVOID

I have cut my heel on staples coming out of the sofa, have had our pillows come apart at the seams. the cushions are pilling so bad they told me to take a sweater shaver to them. Oh and let's not forget about the chair, they have to take it to the warehouse to rebuil the side and the seat. That is after they were just here to fix the back. and it takes them over a month to get the parts in. What a JOKE! They just lost out on $1,200 I bought my mattress elsewhere.

I was an employee of art van this past year. I see one comment on here saying how poorly the sales staff is treated. This is completely accurate. I had to quit because I could stand it no longer. It's brutal. They try to make honest people dishonest with everything they say and do. None of the sales people believe in the product but sell it anyway for fear of losing their jobs. The pillows are a requirement with mattress sales for attachments for the slaes people and so are the mattress protectors. The Protectors are junk! THey don't even keep the dust mites out of your bed like they claim. As an employee I bought a table and was given a similar table but with structural differences. The company is full of lies. Will never look back or shop there. Who ever made this site, way to go. Lets get the word out. Oh, and now Art Van Elslander owns a penthouse down town grand rapids in the river house or what ever the big blue building is. What a slime ball, I net him a couple times too. A complete tird!!! A sofa, love seat, chair and ottoman had to be sprayed with fabric protection.I wasn't working this day so i heard it from a fellow porter. They told the customer to wait so they can fabric protect them. We had run out of fabric protection so my backroom manager told my coworker to go to the employee break room and get a bottle of water, this is what they used to spray the furniture, water to achieve a damp effect, so they cannot rouse the guests suspicions.

ReplyDeleteI have worked as a porter for almost 3 years the number one trick they would use on people is that they would tell the customer to wait outside and till the fabric or leather protection is done so if they mess up your living set and you take it home they would tell you that it was you who messed it up probably when you were taking it up your stairs even if they know they did it.

Its noisy and uncomfortable talked to store manager and he said no refund no exchange unless we spend another 119.00 dollars for guarantee. And then we could spend more money for a better mattress. We spent 600.00 already. Now we are stuck with it.

With in 9 days one side of the mattress was developed a depression and after the suggestion from the sales person I slept on the other side and that when it was noticed one side of the mattress was firm and the other side was soft. After 2 inspectors came to the house and reported 2 different findings, the mattress is not depressed 1 1/4 so Art Van will not do anything about it. It doesn't matter that they sent the wrong mattress. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM ART VAN, THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND IT.

Got busy and couldn't make, so I called up and said would it be a problem to come in Tuesday to get it, was told "Hey no problem". Went in Tuesday, guy says, opps, the chair isn't actually here. WHAT!!!!! Now they are going to deliver it, so I just have to take a half day off of work. Such a pain in the ass. These guys couldn't grab their asses with both hands. If the company was ran by bigger idiots, they would have to be watered twice a week. Fuck them!!! I'm done. Will now pay the extra to go to Ethan Allen.

The call came saying it was ready to be picked up. had to go to the warehouse to get it, wth they can't ship it to the store. head to the warehouse get to the gate and they tell me that i have to into the store and get a pick up ticket. Why didn't they inform me before I tried to make the pick up? so off to the store I go where I am greeted by an old cougar in a mini skirt with this tiny purse asking me if she can help me. My first thoughts were that she was a long way from 8 mile road in that get up. long story short i get my pick up ticket go to the warehouse and get my two boxes, one table, two chairs, ohhhhhhh they forgot to tell me that i paid 400.00 for a cheep Chinese do it yourself kit. I get the stuff to my sons house and proceed to open the cartons, table has all four legs damaged, one chair had two left feet, great quality control here. called sales they couldn't help, asked to speak to someone you could make an executive decision and was referred to jerry the store manager. after a much heated discussion jerry told me that he would have four new legs at the store for me the next day, he couldn't do anything about thee chair as i didn't find the problem until after he had left for the day. I show up the next day to pick up the legs and here are 4 legs taken off the display model. ReplyDeleteI needed an entire house of furniture replaced and had just ran into the money to do it. Went to Art Van on Cicero Ave. in Chicago on the 4th of July, with my son. Well as soon as we walked in there was a group of sales people started swarming toward us. The first was a middle aged male dressed like a used car salesman, dapper dan, a real con artist. I told him we didn't want any help then he completely ignored me and followed us about 6 feet behind. I told him I didn't need any help there was a lot of things I wanted to see and I would look for him if I had a question. He began arguing about doing his job and continued following us. I told my son let's get out of here and turned toward the exit as he headed back to his group of people I heard him say "They probably didn't have any money anyway" I hope he heard me say we'll never set foot in that store again and I will make sure to retell this story to all may family, friends and civic club.

Ill never again buy at Art Van either. Bought a couch and love seat about 2 years ago. They are leather and after about 6 months the color started to come off and the brown started to turn orange. Called Art Van and they came out and said it was normal. Then they said it was because we didn't clean it enough. Finally they decided that they would dye it even though I was against it because I was convinced it would happen again and they wouldn't answer what would be the solution when or if it happened again. Anyway I let them dye it only to have the problem come back again about 8 months later. After 2 months of going back and forth with them they decided they were going to pick it up and fix it. Well their fix was just another dye job and here I am about 6 months down the road with it happening again. Tried to contact the manufacturer but they wont do anything either they say I have to go through Art Van for all warranty items. Heck I even paid for the extended warranty and leather care package. Needless to say I should have reviewed Art Van a little more before purchasing because all the reviews seem to be the same. Not sure what else to do but continue to pay it off and then never shop there again. Its too bad Im a fairly young guy I probably will buy a fair amount of furniture in my lifetime.
